On November 5, 2007, the entire FarmKeeper business was acquired by LIC, New Zealand's Livestock Improvement Corporation.

Who is LIC?
LIC is a dairy farmer owned, farm improvement company providing a diverse range of products and services to the dairy, beef and deer industries both in New Zealand and around the world. LIC's vision is to be an essential partner on farm and in food supply chains.

Why did LIC acquire FarmKeeper?
LIC has an existing software suite which farmers use to manage animal information. As part of their vision, LIC is expanding the range of products and services offered to customers - and farm mapping and paddock-level recording is an obvious fit.

After extensive research into the products on the market, they approached the team at FarmKeeper about integrating the FarmKeeper software programme with LIC's software solutions. The FarmKeeper team looked at their existing product range, customer base, and the huge resources which LIC is able to bring to bear and decided that it was in the best interests of the FarmKeeper software (and existing customers) to accept their offer.

What does this mean for existing FarmKeeper customers?
It's all good! Existing FarmKeeper customers will become LIC customers (if not already). They will receive a letter from LIC in early 2008 with more detail on the integration and asking for help in defining the future direction of FarmKeeper.

What will LIC do with FarmKeeper?
LIC is committed to the NZ and Australian market, and has plans to take FarmKeeper out to a broader worldwide market. Over the coming months the team will be looking at all aspects of the product - including development, branding, pricing and sales channels.

Australian customers should be assured that although LIC is based in NZ, Australia is a key market and the team will be focussing on meeting the demands of both Australian and New Zealand customers.

What about the FarmKeeper staff?
Many customers have established personal relationships with either Darren Bruning (Software Architect) or Paul Orfanos (marketing manager). Both Darren and Paul are staying on with FarmKeeper and are committed to working with LIC to continue developing FarmKeeper and help it achieve the market standing which it deserves.

As time goes on, Darren will hand over some of his support duties to LIC's excellent customer contact centre, which will mean an even higher level of support, with higher response times than has been possible to date.

Evelien Baas from CompuSense, the previous New Zealand distributor of FarmKeeper, is also working with LIC to fulfil a key role in customer support and training.

Customer service has always been paramount to the FarmKeeper team, whose resources have been stretched lately trying to balance providing excellent support with the demands of ongoing software development. The acquisition will mean FarmKeeper is no longer limited by resource.

What if I have questions?
Please feel free to email Darren at dbruning@lic.co.nz with any questions, comments or queries.
Alternatively the LIC customer centre can be contacted using the FarmKeeper freephone numbers - 0800 505 061 (from NZ) or 1800 202 171 (from Australia).
